wooden cover for air conditioning unit

Build two frames out of 1x4s. Each is 44" tall and 42" wide. Use a pneumatic staple gun to attach 1' x 3' cedar planks to the frame to make the screen (Image 1). We chose cedar for its weather resistance. Drill pilot holes for the wrought-iron hinges, which will join the frames. The hinges will allow the homeowner to easily fold up and remove the screen when the A/C unit needs to be serviced. We chose wrought iron because it matches the style of the house. Attach the wrought-iron hinges with screws (Image 2). Attach the cane bolts with the mounting bracket and screws that are supplied with the bolts (Image 3). Cane bolts are often used to secure gates. Place screen in front of AC unit and secure bolts in ground. Sign up for weekly project ideas and advice from experts Privacy Policy Sign Up for More We love to DIY. You love to DIY. Many people try to disguise the unit with a few plants, but it's pretty hard to hide something so giant and bulky. But Beth and Mark of House Pet found a novel solution to hiding their AC unit monstrosity. Mark constructed a few slatted wooden squares that could hide the giant unit without blocking its fan. The corners of the squares are threaded together with long steel rods, which allows the couple to remove the covering during Chicago's cold winter months where the piece would get damaged, and to allow easy access if something happens to the unit. The rods also provide an anchoring mechanism as they go a few inches into the ground to serve as stakes, securing the piece in place.

The cover sits nicely on the rest of the frame and is secured with a few small nails that could easily be removed if neccessary, though it seems the entire wooden housing they constructed can just be pulled off and stored away in one piece when it is not in use. The effect is reduced by distance from the Air Conditioner. While fairly expensive, the Air Conditioner does provide a positive bonus to both insulation values, helping to combat both cold and heat. Because of this, it is very helpful when hatching fertilized Eggs during the process of Breeding, as it protects them from the weather. The Air Conditioner's range is two foundations. Its insulation bonus goes from 100 at its center to zero when two foundations away. Its effects pass through walls, floors and ceilings. There is no difference regardless if it is placed indoors or outdoors. To have maximum insulation bonus locate yourself or what you want to insulate (e.g., eggs) as close as possible to the A/C. Having multiple Air Conditioners will stack the effect of insulation, making it desirable to have multiple when incubating. The Air Conditioner is paint-able, however this object may be re-mapped to include paint regions in a future update. For more information on Paint Regions and how to use them, please view the Dye, Paintbrush, or Spray Painter pages.
