window ac unit not blowing cold

Great idea, attractive, but TERRIBLE air conditionerNo. Maybe soon, but not yetLove/Hate Relationship...I now HATE itQuirky... or Amazon, need to disclose that Quirky is either OUT OF THE AC BIZ... entirely(If they are) OR they need to ensure...Has its quirks, but cools well!I am happy with the Quirky Aros. There are definitely a few frustrating things about it, but I've got it set up to where I actually quite enjoy the product. It looks sleek and modern as an air conditioner, miles above the competition. In the day and age of smartphones and tech products all with a sleek and refined design, I just couldn't see myself purchasing an antiquated looking air conditioner to put in my home.2. Airflow is quite good and within a few minutes of it running I can notice a definite cooling effect in my living room where it is installed (living room about 300-400 sq ft)3. App is easy enough to understand and operate, also has a nice, clean interface. The Smart Away feature appears to work as advertised since the AC was on when I returned from work (was off when I left the house).
Haven't used the AC long enough to really observe how well the Smart Scheduling and Smart Budget functions work yet, but either way they're not essential to how I use this AC.4. Installation can be done in pretty simple steps, although I did watch their instruction video a few times to really get the feel for it, and browsed the other reviews for any tips, having never installed an air conditioner before.price of ac indoor unitIt is indeed loud. best carrier ac unitWhen I first turned it on I was already expecting the noise level since apparently it's supposed to sound like a jet engine.. split ac units for mobile homesaccording to many Amazon reviews. However, having used it for two days, I really don't mind the hum anymore. Yes, it is a loud hum, but nothing rattles, it doesn't annoy, and is simply a loud hum of spinning fan moving air.
I'm not sure how this can drive so many reviewers crazy.. perhaps if you want to install this next to where someone would be sitting or sleeping you should reconsider, but if you have it about 10 feet or so away the sound for me is a non-issue. Imagine having a pedestal fan there instead to circulate air, if it's actually hot you'd need the fan to be on medium or high settings, that's just as loud if not louder than the Quirky Aros, and doesn't cool nearly as well! Gotta see what's more important to you I suppose, for me getting the area cooled is much more important than the fan noise.2. They try to do a quirky sketch-like style in showing each installation step and diagram, but instead it comes off as being very vague and not helpful of an instruction manual. Quirky, if you're listening, you should enlarge all your diagrams, make them more detailed for each step, and perhaps consider scratching the sketchy art style... This is an instruction manual, not something I'm going to admire for its art.3.
Side panels are flimsy and has open air slits where bugs can come in, wind can blow through, rain can soak in, and cold air can escape. Good thing is the foam panels I purchased from another seller worked well in replacing the canvas panels. Link here: Room Air Conditioner - White, Waterproof Insulating Side PanelsBasically to use these replacement foam panels I had to retract the original canvas ones, then measure the enclosed space meticulously so that I could cut out the foam to the exact size. I ended up using a piece of cardboard to do size tests and adjustments, when the cardboard was cut down to fit perfectly I then used it as a guide to trim down my foam. It took some patience to measure and cut nicely, but all in all, worth it. The white foam looks much better than a lot of the dark gray or black foam other sellers have. The dark foam ruins the aesthetics of the product for me (as well as the abundant use of duct tape all over the panels...).Other notes:Installation - The two side rails that many have had trouble installing appear to have been fixed.
My unit came with an addendum sheet that informs this step was left out of the original manual, and advises you to install the side rails with some force applied. When I did it, they slid very smoothly into the rail slots, with very little force needed actually. perhaps they've fixed the size issue already.Operating lights - The blue LED lights on the front of the unit doesn't bother me personally, and they also go away after a bit of time (maybe 30 seconds? did not count). If you have it next to your bed it'd probably be too bright when it's dark, but it only comes on when you change an AC setting anyway.Summary: Happy with the product. There are no other smart ACs out there, and it looks much better than all the other offerings. The whole assembly looks nice if you are willing to put in some work to make it so (buying 3rd party foam panels, NOT using duct tape..The noise is not really an issue if you don't have it very close to where people are sitting or sleeping. It's all about priorities with this product, so far, the pros outweigh the cons for me.
If a future version comes I would be very interested in upgrading. Profound waste of money. And I want mine back. Update 7/6/15 with possible connectivity solution.Clumsy execution, (poorly) reinvented wheel. Looks nice-ish, love the app feature, has some BIG design flawsDo not be a guinea pig for Quirky's quality control experiments!LOUD, much louder than you expectRunning that AC can cost you a pretty penny, but you still need to cool down at night so you can sleep comfortably. Real Simple notes that a fan blowing air out of your room is better than one blowing in. When your fan is facing out the window, it blows hot air out of the room, which his replaced by cold air from outside. As the cold air comes in, the temperature will drop. It's best if you have another window to open elsewhere so you can get a cross draft going too.Keep in mind this only works at times when the outside air is actually cooler than the air inside, otherwise you'll want the fan blowing directly at you.
