But small steps can whittle away power costs. Summer means high energy consumption and high electricity bills. 1. Switch off that fan The power saver in us is quick to switch off lights and replace regular tubelights and bulbs with CFL and LED. But lights are used only after dark, while fans run all day and night. Thus, fans have a bigger impact on power bills. While a tubelight consumes around 55 watts per hour, an average fan consumes 75 watts. Old models and inexpensive fans can guzzle up to 90 watts. Replacing your old fan with a power-saver model makes sense as a BEE rated fan consumes around 50 watts.

The average cost of operating a fan is Rs 5 per unit. Place the fridge right A refrigerator accounts for 15% of a household's total power consumption. You can make your fridge more power efficient by placing it in a way to allow air circulation around it. It should be at least 2 inches away from the wall. Do not expose it to direct sunlight—it will need more power to function. Don't stuff your fridge full, there won't be enough space for air to circulate inside, reducing the efficiency of the unit. Ice accumulation impacts energy consumption, so defrost regularly. If you are buying a new fridge, go for BEE-rated one. Big fridges and ones with features like instant ice maker use more energy.
Replacing an old refrigerator with a new BEE-rated one, can save Rs 1,500 a year on power bills. According to a study conducted by the Department of Energy in the US, a DVD player's standby power consumption is around 7.54 W, and a set-top box's 17.8 W. Switch off the electric point for appliances which are not being used. It is safer to unplug the cord. My entrance is in the back and up 2 flights of stairs. It was difficult but I got it up!!! Funny that the weight is also 54 (pounds)! I was able to install the side panels in about 1/2 an hour, I did not use all the other doo-dads suggested, I figured I'd do it next summer, when installing in the beginning of the summer. I put it in my bedroom window, crossed my fingers and toes and turned on. Again, so far so good! I have never had a digital a/c before, so wasn't sure about the workings if it, but I am extremely satisfied. It is so much quieter than my old, NON energy- efficient a/c and the 6,000 BTUs is perfect for my small bedroom.
I only have used the energy saving and fan modes because my September weather does not warrant anything stronger. My intent was to try it out and make sure it worked before storing it for the winter. My first Walmart purchase, other than using your pharmacy, which I also am extremely happy with!! P.S. I bought the 3 year warranty plan, keeping my fingers crossed I won't ever need it, but it makes me feel more secure. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars, is because I just got! Makes more sense to customers to see results after at least 2 years!!! Yes (4) No (0)  Report Yes (4) No (0) Verified purchaser Verified purchaser We bought two identical units in summer of 2015. This one is a disappointment and will be returned .The plastic housing rattles. It is so loud one can't sleep with it on. The noise can be reduced with a shim under the front of the machine, but it is still noiser than the other ones. Yes (5) No (0)  Report Yes (5) No (0) Verified purchaser Verified purchaser I would recommend this to anyone who wants to stay cool in the summer.
We went from burning up with the Frigidaire A/C to freezing in the bedroom. It not only cools the bedroom but also keeps the living room cool as well. Yes (2) No (0)  Report Yes (2) No (0) Verified purchaser I purchased this unit to replace my 20 year old worn out energy efficient AC which was rated at 7.1 amps and an EER of 10.0. ( The LG is rated at 4.9 amps and 11.5 EER). I was very pleased with this unit right out of the box. It looked great, had smooth lines, and was not filled with the Styrofoam guts that seem to be the trend these days. I had little to no problem with assembly and installation. After reading the owners manual, I fired it up, made the usual setting selections and let it run to cool off the room while I did some work in the yard. Upon my return, the room was nice and cold (for me that's comfortable). I think I saw several snowflakes or two flying around. This unit is quick and efficient and cools a room quickly. That being said, later that evening when I went to bed and things got quieter I could barely hear myself think.
This unit is noisy and is not for trying to fall asleep right away. Once asleep however, I was fine. The room was nice and cool and I slept comfortably. I cant sleep if I'm not cool and humidity free at night. Bottom line: if you want a great cool and efficient AC and are willing to put up with some noise, then the LW6015ER is for you. This is why I gave it an average rating. It is great for cooling but not so quiet. Yes () No (2)  Report Yes () No (2) Verified purchaser This unit cools the room very quickly and without much noise. The energy star feature for reduced power consumption is an added plus. Yes (1) No (0)  Report Yes (1) No (0) Verified purchaser Verified purchaser This a/c will not get cold enough to cool a fairly large area. The compressor does not run enough to stay cool enough. Yes (1) No (0)  Report Yes (1) No (0) Verified purchaser Verified purchaser I had to replace my window Ac unit late in the season an found this one online. It arrived in a few days and had ir installed and running.
The unit has some features my old unit did not. I like the dehumidify feature It will still keep the place cool with this feature and use it at nights. I like the energy saving feature in that it shuts down the ac unit when the temperature is reached and will check every few minutes to see if the ac unit needs to kick on again.. I paid a bit more for this unit than the last unit I bought, but this one puts out more AC and has a few more features. We probably had it for about 10 years - so it was time. This is a good air conditioner - very powerful. As a matter of fact, sometimes I find myself turning it to a lower setting and a higher temp on hot days - yes, that's how cool it makes the room.
