Home Construction and Repair I have a 14 year old Water Furnace which has dirty sock syndrome. The coil emits a foul odor in my home. I call called Water Furnace and spoke to a customer relations person and am waiting for them to get back to me. 15 years ago the industry started to use recycle aluminum which is porous and allows bacteria to form on the coils. I'm waiting for a call !! I just called this week and spoke to Riley a customer relations person.... I have two Water Furnace units in my house. I have had so many problems with both units its unreal. Ive had multiple boards go bad, both compressors fail, pumps go bad, you name it. The finally swapped an entire unit out because of all the issues. When they work, they work great. Unfortunately they are extremely unreliable. The savings arent worth the extra upfront cost and the constant headaches when they need repaired. I happened upon this "complaint" site and am astounded. I installed WF units when home was built 1991 and replaced the main unit in 2013.

The ONLY difference is the new unit does not make as much "free" hot water as did the original. Otherwise, comfort and cost could not have better met my expectations.
