On Friday, Secretary of State John Kerry raised eyebrows in Vienna when he claimed that air conditioners and refrigerators pose an "equal" threat as that posed by ISIS. Ripping the out-of-touch, gaffe-prone Democrat, critics created a hilarious online petition asking the State Department to ban all air conditioning units…since they pose such an imminent threat to “life on earth," according to Kerry. petition posted over the weekend, appropriately titled “Remove air conditioning from all US State Department property,” has over 1,600 signatures, quickly closing the gap to its 2,500 signature goal.
The meme below is featured on the petition page: The petition text reads as follows: WHEREAS, Secretary of State John F. Kerry has suggested that air conditioners are as big a threat as ISIS, and WHEREAS, it is the duty of our elected and appointed government officials to lead by example, THEREFORE, we call upon the U.S. Department of State to remove air conditioning from all property that the Department owns, rents, or otherwise employs, including but not limited to embassies, consulates, office buildings, etc., all vehicles owned and/or operated by the Department, and any other property, real or movable, owned, rented, or otherwise employed by the Department. Mr. Kerry noted that air conditioners are an "equal" threat to Islamic terrorism, or jihad, while amending the Montreal Protocol in order to decrease hydrofluorocarbons, chemicals found in greenhouse gases which supposedly contribute to man-made global warming.   “As we were working together on the challenge of [ISIS] and terrorism,” stated Kerry.
“It’s hard for some people to grasp it, but what we–you–are doing here right now is of equal importance because it has the ability to literally save life on the planet itself. “The use of hydrofluorocarbons is unfortunately growing,” the secretary of state continued. “Already, the HFCs use in refrigerators, air conditioners, and other items are emitting an entire gigaton of carbon dioxide-equivalent pollution into the atmosphere annually. how many degrees can an ac unit coolNow, if that sounds like a lot, my friends, it’s because it is. how to charge an ac unitIt’s the equivalent to emissions from nearly 300 coal-fired power plants every single year.” no power to ac unitOf course, the State Department will not adhere to the call to nix all AC units.
Nor will they rid the Democratic National Convention this week in Philadelphia of AC either. Democrats are notoriously hypocritical, but when it comes to climate change, or global warming, or whatever the heck the left calls it these days, their hypocrisy shines brightest. The ozone layer surrounding our planet protects us and other life from the harmful effects of the sun. To reduce this damage, the refrigerants in household appliances need to be collected and reprocessed.  Some of these gases are referred to as CFCs (chloroflourocarbons). HRM offers FREE refrigerant gas removal service to all properties eligible for municipal curbside collection. Simply call 311 or visit our online customer service page to arrange for our contracted technicians to remove the CFC's from your appliance.
Please note, it could take up to 10 business days for the contractor to make the scheduled visit, so keep that in mind when planning for disposal. Once the service is complete, they will attach a sticker to the appliance and it can be placed out for curbside collection on your regular garbage collection day. If you are not eligible for curbside collection service - businesses, apartment buildings with more then 6 units or if you live in a condo, please refer to the Yellow Pages Directory under "Refrigeration" for companies that can remove refridgerant gases. One tip when moving household appliances that contain refrigerants and compressors is to keep them in the upright, normal operating position while moving them so that any oil in the unit's compressor will not leak or run out. Heat pumps are not eligible for this program due to their size but may be placed curbside after gases are removed by a refrigeration company. You may be eligible for free in-home pickup and an incentive through Efficiency Nova Scotia to retire your old refrigerator, freezer, or room air conditioner.
