The portable air conditioner is a machine which may sometimes need to be drained. The better models will use the excess water in order to cool the air which is released as exhaust. The best models on the market will never need the water removed, but if you have an appliance which sloshes water on the ground, you need to be able to drain liquid from the unit. Before attempting to drain any water from your machine, make sure it is set up for this task. If it is supposed to use the excess water in a different function, pooling water means your machine is not working properly, and while you can drain the water, it will not improve the function of the machine. You may have other issues your need to look into instead. If you do have a model that can be drained quickly and easily, the more you know about the machine, the easier it will be to drain it. You can find out a lot of information about your particular model by reading the owner's manual. This will also give you a schematic to tell you where everything—including the drip pan—is located.

Many models will allow you to hook up tubing to remove condensation. If you have a model like this, it will be characterized by a small spout sticking out the back end. In order to drain the machine, you will need the right width tubing to connect to the appliance. You will also need for the tubing to be long enough to get to a good dumping source. A window, sink, or drain will work perfectly for this. If none are available, you can use a bucket and then occasionally empty it as you go. It will hold more water than the drip pan which will allow you to drain it less often. When all else fails, simply find where the condensation pan is at. This is usually on the bottom of the exhaust portion of the machine. You should be able to locate it without taking the machine apart, so if it is not readily available, it means you have a unit which is supposed to drain itself. Once you find it, slowly pull the pan out from the air conditioner. Pour the contents slowly into a bucket, or take it outdoors to get rid of it.

Keep an eye on the pan for future dumps. If you are dumping water once a week, there is something wrong with the machine and you need to look into repairing it. Luckily an air conditioner is not a terribly complex piece of machinery. Flexible power options, flexible use locations (never thought of using a/c outside but with this unit it was a snap!) Not really extra anything to tote along because it's also a wheeled cooler full of drinks and snacks with an awesome handle. Upon unpackaging, I was equally impressed with the unit. Ice chest, yes but obviously with just a little bit more technology that makes it different than anything else. However, upon opening the lid, I quickly noticed there was a rattle in the fan and cooling unit. Upon gently shaking the lid back and forth, I verified something was not right.

Once I read the directions and got everything prepared for first start up, I add water and ice as directed. Upon turning on the unit in my truck, nothing. I turned off the unit and checked everything with the troublshooting steps and tried to turn on. I contacted icybreeze the next day and let them know what was happening. They asked to troublshooting over the phone which I couldn't do at the time. They asked if you feel comfortable changing the fan unit, can we sent you a new one? I said if you think that's the issue sure! Within two days the new fan unit arrived. I changed it out in less than 6 minutes? Unit works perfectly now. Given the 112+° heat indexes, I was quite pleased. It wasn't possible to cool off our twelve person tent on the low setting. And the ice melts considerably faster than I'd thought, leaving me to have to make an extra trip (or two) to get replacement ice. I purchased a generator halfway through the week to give us more time to use the product, although the battery life advertised seems very accurate. I'm sure in 90° temps, the lower setting would be adequate. Posted by Unknown on 26th Jul 2016 I have had it a week and have used it every day. I am happy with it! The battery on the rechargeable version does last 5-6 as declared. What I did not take into account is that the water-cooled radiator that converts the cold air melts the ice significantly faster than battery life (cold air lasts 4 hours in 80 degree weather). It continues to blow "luke warm" air, which is better than nothing. An ice block or larger ice chunks will buy longer cooling times as it melts slower than tiny ice cubes.
