Steele said that the Aqua Chill system uses a constant flow of water to cool the inside coils of the AC unit, and by keeping the system cool, it uses less energy, saving homeowners around 30 percent on their monthly electric bill."What the Aqua Chill does, it's actually water cooled, so even when it's 100 degrees out, the AC will perform like it's 75 degrees out, and we all know when it's 75 the AC doesn't have to work anywhere near as hard [or] cost as much to run," Steele said.     The units look like most other air conditioning units, except for a mister-like system and trough of water stored on the inside."It's kind of like having an evaporative cooler inside your AC unit," Steele said.Aqua Chill has been used in commercial buildings for years, but only recently in residential buildings. The technology was created by a company in California and is now slowly expanding to other states.Steele said that the Aqua Chill system is a couple thousand dollars more expensive than standard high-efficiency systems, but homeowners like Pullen will make that back in energy savings over the next few years.

Pullen said that he saved about $90 a month on this past summer's electric bills."We saw right away the drop in kilowatt hours being used," Pullen said.
