my ac window unit is not cooling

Age 18-24 25-34 35-44 45-54 55-64 65 and older Gender Male Female Verified purchaser I bought this for a VERY small window in my storage building. The inside dimensions of the Window was only 12"H x 17"W. And this fits perfect!!! I installed it on my bedroom apartment window and it does the job. Now the kit was built for a wooden window like in a house so i couldnt drill holes for the brackets but it still fit and it works pretty well. On 7 high it works wonders. I mean it can get a room down to 60 easy but on any other temp including 6, u can barely feel it. There isnt anything between barely workin and alaska. Also everything is manual which can get only in this day and age. If u fall aslp with it on 7 u may freeze to death. But hay maybe thats what u want Yes () No (0) Report Yes () No (0) Verified purchaser Verified purchaser Works well as expected.

What was not expected is the condensate discharge is in the middle of the bottom support plate. Perhaps not a problem for a typical sash window installation, but here in Florida there are not typical wooden sash windows like you find up north. This is a problem for me because the unit has to be installed in a concrete block wall opening so the drip is in the middle of frame built around the opening, so I'm having to engineer a drip pan of sorts to force the water to flow to the outside of the frame in the opening. Only partially solved, so 1 week after sticking it in the opening, it's still not completely solved while I debate how best to solve the drip problem. My previous A/E discharged in the rear of the unit so it dripped cleanly outdoors. Apparently this is the "new way" of building the bottom of the line - not a thing that I enjoy being forced to work around. What was wrong with the "old way?" They worked just fine. IT WAS TOO FAR AWAY. SO I LOOKED FOR A SMALL WINDOW AIR CONDITIONER THAT COULD HANDLE MY BEDROOM, WITH THE DOOR CLOSED. THE ARTIC KING AT WALMART WAS THE LOWEST PRICED UNIT, AND HAS WORKED JUST THE WAY I WANTED. IT KEEPS THE BEDROOM VERY COOL AND CAN BE ADJUSTED FOR VARIOUS OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE CONDITIONS.
hvac heat pump problemsI CAREFULLY MEASURED MY WINDOW HEIGHT, SINCE I HAVE HALF SIZE BEDROOM WINDOWS AND SOME 5,000 BTU AIR CONDITIONERS WERE TOO HIGH TO FIT INTO THE MEASUREMENT BETWEEN THE SILL AND TOP OF THE OPEN SASH.
ac unit for motorcycleTHE AIR KING FIT VERY COMFORTABLY.
heating air conditioning systems ratingsIT WAS EASY TO INSTALL, ALTHOUGH I WOULD CAUTION CARE IN READING THE INSTRUCTIONS AND EXACT MEASUREMENTS. ALL IN ALL, A WINNER IN PERFORMANCE AND COST.

Yes (8) No (5) Report Yes (8) No (5) Verified purchaser each small 5.000 btu unit does a geat job in my 100 yr old house, to install whole house a/c is not $$$ feasable, therefore these units are excellent. Yes () No (4) Report Yes () No (4) I debated but bought to try. I wanted a small-- low wattage use A/C that could be used as an emergency room cooler--with a generator-..this was 515 watts/4.8 amps. received in just 3 days [buy early before heat waves folks!!] I opened the VERY WELL WRAPPED a/c-- assembled the few parts in 15 minutes while I was testing cooling power on a workbench, I got 42-46 degree air from vents in an 80 degree room. small, light weight- 34 pounds to lift- and has a 6' long cord# the wall plug is a bulky 3 prong reset/test style# 2 a/c air blowing speeds- 2 fan only speeds-- not much difference between high and low-- but sufficient to feel 6' away## air direction is only left/right-- not up or down# dials are simple, operation is very quiet I thought

, NEGATIVE= rear of a/c has the aluminum fins exposed and they mash with the slightest touch!!! BE VERY CAREFUL in handling as this mashing can effect cooling. rest of case is very sturdy and nicely finished. NOW I think I will install it in a small bathroom and give it a test!!! Plus I intend to buy another one at the $109.-- maybe 2 to lighten the central air load when whole house cooling isn't really needed. the simple, quiet design sold me. Read question area for lots of info!! Yes () No () Report Yes () No () Pros: Blows cold and quiet Cons: the fact that there is styrofoam within gave me concern. YES, it blows very cold, but blows downward, thereby only really cooling off approximately 2-3 feet in front of it at a downward angle. you cannot adjust vents up and down, only side to side, so unless your window sit up high, the only thing you will be cooling is your floor. We bought this to replace another 5000 btu window unit that we've had for at least 8 years and even the older one cooled better than this one.

even keeping the room it was in with a closed door for hours at a time only cooled the room off very little. our old one could make the room freezing. but i guess, you get what you pay for. and in the south, with temps that reach upper 90s during the day and upper 80s in the evening and overnight, it just didnt work for us. Yes () No () Report Yes () No () Owned this for 3 days....bought it at my local Walmart to replace my noisy bedroom window a/c. The reason I bought it is at another site I saw a comment about it being quiet.....and it is whisper quiet compared to my older Whirlpool window unit. Out of the box...instructions leave a little to be desired but was not hard to figure out the assembly. Less than an hour from opening the box to having it in the window and running. There is no battery as listed on the site (a typo ?). It is cooling my master bedroom (12 x 14 square feet ) plus the attached 1/2 bath ( 4 x 12) for a total of 216 square feet ....way above the recommended 150 sq feet ( this assumes 8 foot ceilings).

It holds a constant 73 F across the bedroom with an outside temp of 90 F (bedroom door is open) at a setting of about 6.5 out of 7 max. It cycles the compressor on and off at this setting quite well. When I first turned it on the room temp was above 80 F... set it at max cool (7). I closed the bedroom door and in 30 minutes the bedroom was measured at 68 F ( at the furthest point in the room away from the a/c unit...did not check the 1/2 bath). I also checked the temp coming directly from the unit.... 48 F...my older unit was 54 F. Pros- * extremely quiet (compared to my other window units) * holds a constant room temp * light weight and easy to install * price ( I paid $104 plus tax) Cons- * Fan could move a little more air (but then it would be louder) * Air direction only moves left and right...not up and down Final thoughts - would I recommend this ? would I buy it again ? yes (wish I could afford another for my computer room) Only owned it for 3 days...hope it holds up
