It not stylish but not bad looking nether. Exactly what I wanted. Worked well to keep cold air out all winter. I'm not a fan of installing it every year because it's a little bit too snug for our A/C unit, but I'm convinced that it helps, so I get over it. Works really really great and well worth the money.

I initially bought this for keep out noise from my neighbors 3 tiny little annoying barking all night long dogs. I was really surprised at how much cold air infiltrated from my wall A/C units. Before & After: Covering Up a Wall or Window Air Conditioner Air & Water Filters During the holiday break I had a little personal time to finish a few home improvement projects that were forever on my to-do list, including installing a new hallway rug, hang up a gallery's worth of art and prints, and even paint (just a door). But there was one project I was unable to completer: covering up the cold air welcoming window air conditioner unit (38 degrees in Los Angeles has gone from a novelty to a bothersome issue).

Then I discovered this project... Walter Silva of Decor Hacks converted a necessary eyesore into an interior element not only useful, but looks quite nice considering a wall mounted air conditioner doesn't usually elicit, "Oh wow, that's great!" upon viewing. The project requires a scant amount of materials: Wood Cordless Drill with a counter sink bit My window unit (above) doesn't offer a wood frame to mount an all-wood cover like Walter's solution, but his project got me wondering if I could have a similar setup created using a custom picture box frame or even stretched canvas with fabric stapled over it. Add some batting as insulation inside instead of full on fiberglass insulation material, and I've blocked out the cold winter drafts. And I could secure the frame using strategically positioned adhesive velcro, for easy on and off use. It all seems feasible now, thanks to Walter's decor hack. See the complete Chalkboard A/C Unit Cover project here. An all wood frame doesn't seem to work with my window mounted unit, but perhaps a custom fitted stretched canvas like these from Native Vermont Studios could work.
