in wall ac unit installation

I am looking to install a through the wall air conditioner in the basement. I don't want to block the one window. There is already a window in the brick. I don't know if there is any kind of structural issue with cutting and framing in the air conditioner. Here is the air conditioner sleeve. Approximate location in red dashes. Cutting a hole in your foundation almost always requires an engineer, and is almost never a do-it-yourself project. You'll need an engineer, to tell you how to carry the load around the opening. And you'll likely need tools and knowledge you don't have, to actually cut the hole. What should I consider when cutting/making a window in a concrete foundation? I wouldn't do this without an L shaped metal lintel on the inside to support the load above and also prevent crack/total failure of the veneer. My only thought would be to cut the hole for the window then immediately move to the interior of the home and cut a groove on the inside of this new window so that lintel can slide into the groove and support the very top of the window.

The bottom of the window should be sloped outward as well to prevent rain from puddling outside the window too. A wall mounted air conditioner is made to be installed into a opening that has been cut into a wall. A window unit does not require any major home modifications. All that is needed is the correct window dimension to be known so that the correct size unit can be bought.

Window units have the disadvantage of never completely having the area on the sides properly sealed and insulated. Which can leak out the cold air a A/C unit is pumping in. Window units also block the use of the window it is placed in. Wall mounted units have a better seal around them since a hole is cut into a wall for the unit to be placed in. This makes them more efficient to use. Wall units also don’t block a window from being used and look more professional. Window A/C units are much easier to install since no hole needs to be cut into a wall. They come with brackets that hold them in place and side pieces to fill in any gaps that the unit doesn’t take up. Wall air conditioners require more skill since a hole the size of the unit needs to be cut out of a outside wall. Some window A/C units can be used as wall air conditioners but wall units are not built to be used as window air conditioners. When deciding which type of A/C unit to buy much depends on the skill of the person doing the install.

A skilled person will have no problem cutting a section from a wall and installing a wall unit while this may be too much for the average person. Also wall units are a more permanent feature than a window unit.Marvair® air conditioners are designed and built for the various markets we serve.
