Efficient and the Quietest in Class I purchased this unit about three weeks ago to cool the upstairs 200 square foot master bedroom in my one and a half story home that my central air doesn't cool. It gets very humid and warm up there and the ceiling fan doesn't cut it. Enter the Haier Serenity Series Air Conditioner. I did my research and this is the quietest air conditioner for it's size, coming in at 43 decibels on the quiet mode.

This being said, it is not "whisper quiet" - the unit certainly makes noise that takes some acclimatization whist falling asleep. I use the dehumidifier option which both cools very well and removes humidity from the room quickly. The unit has a handy remote that is useful in the early morning when the room is cool and I'd prefer to have the unit off for peace and quiet for those precious last minute morning zzz's. All in all, a very good air conditioner to increase comfort on the top floor. This unit is very quiet - its lowest speed setting is called "Quiet". I first bought (and returned) the lower priced Danby 6000 btu unit (which is far too noisy to be used in a bedroom). Spend the extra $ - it's worth it. High quality and Quiet The unit was simple to install. In "High" mode it made a bit less noise than other air conditioners, however the "Quiet" mode was much quieter than any other unit I've experienced. It is not silent (no window unit can be), but it is very comfortable for sleeping. Remote is very light and can be easily knocked off the side table, so I glued some Velcro (hook side on the remote, fuzz side on the table) and problem solved.

I used to average 77-80 24/7 when our house was set to 72. I wanted a unit that would last me many years, and that was quality built. I chose a name brand Frigidaire at $189 because I view this as a long-term investment. I'd rather pay the price of two cheap units to get one that will last a long time. This unit cools very fast, and has some great options and settings! Installation was a breeze and went flawlessly the first time. I installed mine in my window on the second floor. The unit weighs about 51 lbs so it might be good for the less muscular ladies to seek additional help. I have traditional old-school windows and this thing mounted perfectly in them. I have a wall unit in my dining on the other end of the house and with all three units running, the house was completely cooled down.

I like the fact that you can set and see the temperature in the room and it also has a sleep mode at night so the temperature goes up 2 degrees after a half hour and in the morning will return to the original temperature setting. Lastly, I would like to say how easy they were to install. I am a 56 year old women and I installed both air conditioners myself with a little help from my nephew because of the awkwardness. If you HAVE TO use window units, you can not go wrong with this one for a medium size bedroom (ours is a little under 200 sq. feet or about 12 by 16 feet). The economy mode is great as it turns off everything, including the fan, when temperature is met which reduces cost to run and noise. The sleep mode is also great, you can set it extra cold to start to bed, then it will slowly raise it 4 degrees more during the night so you don't get too cold as the overnight temperature drops.

For the price paid and features included (digital display, remote operation, 8 way airflow adjustment) you can't go wrong! and had it shiped site to store. Box was was in fair shape on pick-up. Brought this home and installed it. I saw where other people said it made "grinding" noises and was loud. I thought I would give it a try. Like so many others I had the same issues with this A/C. It was released in 2010 and I believe it was a bad engineering concept till it was improved upon. I kept this A/C for two weeks and returned it. My advice on this A/C is to NOT buy it. For as much money as you spend there are better to choose from. This model has issues. On the temperature issue it would kick on then off the temperature would rise then it would cool down. The temperature would continue to rise all through the day and then get back at target temperature at night. The fan is a little noisy like it needs a bit more grease or better bearings (not obnoxious though. It is installed about 4 feet from the head of my bed and it doesn't keep me awake), the motor is quiet. I love that it has a remote (I guess all the new ones do these day, but again this is a first for me). It comes with batteries and the other day it got a little squirrelly ... I was setting the temp and one push of the cooler button and the unit flew down to 60, one push back up and it went to 80. I took the batteries out and replaced them, so far so good. The timer is a cool feature and eco mode and auto fan, I am looking forward to seeing if these features are going to help on my bill this summer. I can't say how it's going to do in the super heat yet because the hottest day we have had so far is only 80, but I have high hopes even though the one it is replacing was 9000btu (nope, didn't realize that till I took it out to put this one in). It quit several weeks ago when the weather was over 100 degrees. I couldn't find any window units available anywhere so I ordered this one from WalMart via shipping which was only 99 cents! This same air was sold for at least $20.00 more elsewhere and I got almost free shipping right to my door. It only took 3 days to receive even though they estimated much longer. Hooked it up in no time and followed the directions for how long it would take to start cooling. It has more control for direction of air than the old one and produces much cooler air. Needless to say I am very well pleased with this unit. Turns out the Frigidaire did such a good job I only needed one instead of the two I thought I'd need, and it is working beautifully. I returned the other to my local Walmart and received a no-problem refund. I recently received my first electric bill and these energy efficient ACs have cut my bill in half over the central unit at my old house.

Read all the reviews and was encouraged by the previous reviews and the fact that we have a 5,000 btu Frigidaire in the other bedroom that works fine and is as quiet as any a/c I've seen. Installed it and was immediately thrown off that my 5/6 year old sharp had the exact same remote and brackets as this brand new unit. Within the first hour, we were pleased to see the temperature of the room drop from 90 to 81...that's where the honeymoon ended. That night however, we were unable to sleep b/c for some reason the unit made a rattling sound (quiet similar to the older unit that we had to replace). I woke up and attempted to adjust its positioning in the window, but no luck. I'm waiting for my first free moment to a) find a better unit and purchase it and 2) remove this junker and return it to Walmart. I just hope we can find some way to get some rest and endure the heat (b/c our room is just barely tolerable over the last couple of days).
