Or simply setting the temp higher and letting the AC do its thing? Frugal)submitted by Tried to search for this question since I was sure it had to have been asked before, but could not find anything.

Was hanging out with friends today at their place on a rather hot day. And all day long they kept turning the AC on when they got warm, and off when they got cool. It was set at something rather cold, but I think the lowest I saw it get before it was turned off was around 70 degrees. Then once it warmed up to the upper 70s, they would turn it on again. I tried to argue that it would just make more sense to leave it at 75 and call it good. But they countered that you're actually turning off the AC and not having it running. And just to clarify, I'm not asking about turning the AC off all day when people are gone for work. (Since it looks like the consensus of the subreddit says to turn it off when gone) I'm talking more weekend scenario when you could be home all day long. I'm sure there is a lot of factors that go into play as far as the efficiency of the AC system and the insulation of the house, etc. But for the sake of argument, let's just stick with what the typical house would work.
