buy old ac units

POUGHKEEPSIE – Beginning this month, customers of Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation will once again have the opportunity to trade in and recycle their old, working window and wall air conditioners and receive rebates of $50 to $100 with the purchase of new Energy Star® units. To kick off this offering, an Air Conditioner (AC) Turn-In event will be held at the Sears parking lot located at the Poughkeepsie Galleria Mall from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 28. Customers may continue to turn in air conditioners through Sept. 15, 2016, at participating Mid-Hudson Valley Sears locations. “Our customers respond very favorably to this annual event, as it makes it easy for them to save on their energy bills while protecting the environment,” said Michael L. Mosher, President and C.E.O of Central Hudson. He explained that during the AC Turn-In event, customers can quickly drop off their working air conditioners at the designated station in the Sears parking lot at the Poughkeepsie Galleria.

“This program encourages our customers to reduce waste by replacing their inefficient air conditioners with newer models that use less energy,” he said. Mosher also explained air conditioners turned in by customers are properly recycled.

Customers may then purchase new Energy Star® window or through-the-wall air conditioners from any retailer before the program deadline. To receive a rebate, they must send in the Proof of Recycling certificate, rebate form and their purchase receipt for a $50 rebate on a new, Energy Star® window air conditioner or $100 for a through-the-wall unit. Energy efficiency programs offered since 2009 by Central Hudson will save participating customers a combined $20.6 million dollars per year on their utility bills and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 375 million pounds annually. “Thousands of our customers have found ways to reduce their energy use, help protect the environment and save money by taking advantage of Central Hudson’s energy efficiency programs,” said Mosher. Central Hudson’s energy efficiency programs are offered to residential, commercial, institutional and municipal customers. “Using energy efficiently just makes sense, and our energy efficiency programs help our customers save,” said Mosher.

“Since 2009, our customers have turned in and recycled more than 19,000 refrigerators, freezers and window air conditioners; installed 3,500 high efficiency central air conditioning and heat pump systems; purchased 700 heat pump water heaters; replaced more than 3,000 gas heating and water heating systems; installed 3,100 programmable thermostats; and upgraded lighting at nearly 4,500 municipal and commercial buildings,” said Mosher Energy saved by these measures would power nearly 15,000 homes, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by the equivalent of removing 35,500 cars from the road or planting 138,000 acres of forest. “These energy savings and benefits continue year after year,” said Mosher. , inefficient air conditioners, Kathy Welsh, LED lights, Michael L. KNOW how much you need to tuck aside (or finance). The question is how long will the old unit last? .. like another person said, I say a little prayer of thanks every time it kicks on. aye, there's the rub! A new A/C unit and the insulation job cost approx the same... And both are needed. One you can control the timing of 100%... the other you can't. Will one of those $100 A/C tune-ups do anything to help extend the life?It will at best allow you to postpone the date of the inevitable replacement project.I'll suggest you plan the work for no later than the heating season. How To Buy Thermostats Stay comfortable with smart, manual or programmable thermostats Home thermostats can range from simple manual units to sophisticated programmable units.

This guide will help you understand the different types of thermostats, what you should know when selecting your thermostat, and the special features that increase convenience, comfort and energy efficiency. Manual, Programmable & Smart Thermostats Thermostats are designed as manual, programmable or smart. All three work with air conditioning and a variety of gas, oil and electric furnaces. • Typically found in older homes • Economical with simple controls • Limited energy savings and comfort, but can work efficiently if you’re diligent about changing settings as the temperature changes • Adjust the temperature automatically throughout the day • Save you as much as 33 percent on heating costs, and up to 15 percent to 25 percent on cooling • Advanced models can switch back and forth between heating and air conditioning during seasonal transitions • Easy-to-operate digital interface, with many mercury-free newer models • Can be set to 7-day (daily individual programs), 5-2 day (work week vs. weekend programs), 5-1-1 (work week plus two different programs for Saturday and Sunday), 1-week (same week-long program)

Tip: You can manually override the program’s schedule as needed with many programmable thermostats. • Improve energy efficiency • Allow you to control the temperature from your computer, tablet or smartphone Identify if your home is fitted with 1 Stage, 2 Stage, Direct Line Voltage, 24mV, or Zone heating and cooling to determine which thermostat will be compatible. Your new thermostat will be clearly labeled with one of the following: • Works with 1 Stage heat or cool: For use where you have separate heating and air conditioning units • Works with 2 Stage or multi-stage heat or cool: For heating or cooling units that have a high and low speed • Works with Direct Line Voltage: 110 or 240 direct current power source used in some older homes to power the thermostat • Works with 24mV: For use with a fireplace, floor, or wall furnace • Zoned HVAC: Heating and/or cooling is individually controlled in different areas from the same HVAC system
