I built a platform so I can slide mine outside the window. Then I close the window and cover the Ac unit and slide it up next to the glass after I cover it. When I had a wood house I cut a hole in the wall and installed my AC unit under the window. Up on the wall is better but you can hide the unit better if you put it under the window.
