She sometimes spends hours bedridden in a space with no AC. But today, that all changed --- thanks to the generosity of Linda Young, who donated an air conditioner unit. Gathers wasn’t sure how it would happen, but said her faith told her a solution to her A/C problem wasn't far away. “I didn't expect a response the next day,” the Dinwiddie woman said. Gathers has been fighting cancer for three years now. She called Problem Solvers for help, and unbeknownst to her, total strangers had her on their minds. Linda and Andrew Young stopped by CBS 6 to donate a window unit, after watching a newscast about a mother and daughter duo who helped out a local woman also without AC. “I saw it on TV, and you did it for the other lady and I have a Florida room that`s too hot for me to sit in, so bing, bing, bing,” said Linda Young. Their bright idea turned into a blessing for Gathers. She was floored to see worker from Slade Electric tagging along to properly install the AC she desperately needs to cool her bedroom.

“I thank god for this,” she said. “It hits hard,” said Drew Berry, with Slade Electric. “I mean, most of these folks are friends and neighbors and we don`t want anyone to have to struggle, to be sick or to have to stay in this heat, so it means a lot to all of us.” It was something they all rejoiced about. For Gathers, she said it is just another example to her that angels are watching over her. “Ahhhh, I’m gonna sleep really good tonight, ha ha ha,really good,” she said. “I may even be able to use my fur comforter!" The replacement cost was $3,500. Central air conditioning system sustained electrical burnout. Total cost to replace the system was $10,024. A security gate motor burned out due to an internal electrical short. Cost to repair the motor was $1,750. A bathroom spa system was found to have internal electrical burnout of the controls and wiring. The cost of repairs was $7,435. The compressor on an air conditioning system seized up due to lack of lubrication and needed to be replaced. Replacement cost of the compressor was $2,448. A heating and air conditioning unit sustained cracked coils, resulting in replacement of the unit. Total loss was $9,650. An air conditioning unit's evaporator coil cracked, resulting in direct physical damage to the air conditioning unit. The cost to complete the repairs was $869.
