Opening on 10 April 2015, at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California. Malcolm Young was replaced by his and Angus's nephew Stevie Young and Phil Rudd was replaced by their former drummer Chris Slade. They have both played for AC/DC on the Blow Up Your Video World Tour and on the Razors Edge World Tour, respectively. In Germany, the band set a new world record in the number of sold tickets within the shortest timespan, with more than 300,000 tickets sold out in seventy-seven minutes. In Switzerland, the band set a new record in the duration to a 'sold out' concert. The concert in Zurich was sold out in 6 minutes (over 40,000 tickets) [7] The band played at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards awards, performing Rock or Bust and Highway to Hell on February 8, 2015.
The last 22 shows were rescheduled as Brian Johnson was ordered to stop touring immediately.[1] Ten shows from March 8, 2016 to April 4, 2016 were cancelled and had to be rescheduled,[9] with Axl Rose of Guns N' Roses appearing in Johnson's place.[10] This is the first time that AC/DC has featured a lead vocalist other than Brian Johnson since they concluded the Highway to Hell Tour on 27 January 1980. As part of this tour, AC/DC performed the first concert at the Olympic Stadium in London since its redevelopment following the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Longtime bassist Cliff Williams announced that he would retire upon completion of the tour, citing losing interest following the health issues with Malcom Young and Brian Johnson, and the legal issues with Phil Rudd. The Rock or Bust World Tour has grossed $208.2 million so far through June 30, 2016. ^ This show was originally scheduled for 29 February 2016, but has been pushed back to the previous day to allow vocalist Brian Johnson to attend a funeral of a close friend.2014 has been a wild ride for metal veterans AC/DC thus far ... It was back in April of this year that AC/DC announced that guitarist and founding member, Malcolm Young, would be taking a break from the band due to health issues creating a bit of panic in the rock world. But when the band posted the statement about Young's health and concurring break from the band, the final line was: "The band will continue to make music," and there was also talk about a new album in the works. Then just a few short months later, whist AC/DC sans Young were hard at work in the recording studio recording what would become Rock Or Bust, their sixteenth studio album, Malcolm Young's family confirmed that the musician was suffering from dementia.
The band then made another announcement regarding Young's status saying: "Unfortunately, due to the nature of Malcolm's condition, he will not be returning to the band. AC/DC will undertake a world tour in support of Rock or Bust in 2015. Stevie Young, nephew of founding members Angus and Malcolm Young, plays rhythm guitar on Rock Or Bust and will accompany the band on tour." A bizarre twist, AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd had been charged in New Zealand with attempting to procure a murder. The 60-year-old drummer appeared briefly in Tauranga District Court in New Zealand on charges that he allegedly tried to hire a hit man to murder two men. In a statement, Tauranga Crown Solicitor Greg Hollister-Jones later announced that this charge was dropped due to insufficient evidence. There are lesser charges still pending however, so the million dollar question is if Rudd will be able to join his AC/DC-mates on the 2015 tour -- but it's good, at least, to see that the band still seems to be working full steam ahead on the planning on their 2015 world tour.
The first details are been revealed by the UK and German editions of Metal Hammer magazine including dates for the European tour. One can only hope that the U.S. tour dates are soon to follow. The world tour will be in support of their new album, Rock Or Bust, which just hit the U.S. on December 2. AC/DC's first release off the album, Play Ball, was debuted in October and hit the Top 40 charts across the globe. for more news as it becomes available about AC/DC's 2015 World Tour.
